we three smiles
rolling on the floor
bounce around the room and then
smile some more
we three smiles
making up new games
dance around the table laughing
at our names
we three smiles
hug and tug and grin
praise the Lord for living in
the world we're in.

We Both Know (douglas brent smith)
you’ve been hurt i’ve been hurt, too
everyone’s hurt you know it’s true
we build ever taller walls
and hope someday that they might fall
you tell your truth, i start the chase
you throw another beer in my face
i think there must be something more to this
we try and miss and try again
we don’t need labels but we’re more than friends
you don’t need to tell anyone and
i don’t need to tell anyone but
i think you know what i think you already know
you’ve been free and i’ve been free
let’s unlock this mystery
you be you and i’ll be me
this is us we both agree
and i think we know what we both know
They Have Identified The Stranger -- collage by douglas brent smith
"Is it finished?"
"Is anything ever finished?"
"Yes. Lou Grant. The TV show 'Lou Grant' is definitely finished."
"You can never be sure. There could be a remake."
"Are you going to remake this collage."
"Doubtful."
"Are you ever going to colorize it?"
"Also doubtful and yet also possible."
"Oh."

Dark Bus -- collage by douglas brent smith
I've always liked VW Microbuses. For a short time I even owned one that I dubbed Queen after the boat in the movie "African Queen". It shared a similar need for constant maintenance. Occasionally, it would make every trip a journey of adventure. Still, I loved that little bus.
I made the bus in this collage too dark and could not figure out how to fix it. Sometimes dark is dark forever. I tried to lighten it up a bit with cartoon-like headlights. It's far from perfect.
I think I've used some of these images in other collages. That happens, sometimes. The context changes the meaning and justifies the redundancy. Or, at least I think it does.
I gave some thought to coloring this collage and decided against it. Maybe later, with time on my hands, I'll decide to color it. Probably not though because that process takes many hours and there is so much new work to do. This piece is from 1994. I was a completely differently person then and so were you (presuming that you were even alive then!)
We're changing every day.
What color do you think that floor is?
