my heart so full of you

even with the world falling apart
all i can think about
is keeping us together is
bringing us together doing over
chances to choose love that
endures purely forming storms
of passion, not disappointment
and pleasures we'd treasure
not measure against impossible pondering

such notions preoccupy me even
as you chasten me to
let go of them and declare
we're over that

we're on the same page on
so many things singing similar
songs yet wrongly irregular
on this
        i must (don't judge)
        simply kiss
you again.

again this. a kiss you and me
and see where this
leads us. and please,
trust me on this
i have your best interests at heart
and my heart
            so full of you
throbs incessantly still

agreed, we see this
                   differently
and so i'll wait and take
moment by careful moment
time with you until
i'm no longer (we're no longer)
careful and cautious but
dramatically real

how does that feel?

Sketch in June

Sketch in June, from Journal #61, 14 June 2021

Poem: who we are

who we really are is a frustrating secret locked in chambers dark. filled with echoes repeating what we've been told, taught, and sold clicking away - vibrating in a pulse of rainfall that we do not feel. Sopping, sobbing, wet. who we really are eludes us every corner ghostlike, shadow shrouded wispy drawn sketched on page prepared but torn, tearful, and faded dropping away - ringing in tones of tools we can not carry. We touch nothing uninvited, withheld. who we are is right there in front of us. don't you see it? (c) 2017 douglas brent smith

Who Wore It First?

Inspiration Station

Inspiration Station -- sketch by Douglas Brent Smith, 1998 What if you drew a picture while you were watching "Outer Limits" and "The Twilight Zone"? I don't remember if that was what was going on (probably not) but those are two of my favorite shows ever (in all of their iterations) so think of this as inspired by a UHF smoothie turning channel knob.

Back Inner Cover

Back Inner Cover of Journal #33, Life In Progress, by Douglas Brent Smith, A collage that's not exactly a typical collage. It's what I often do with the back inner covers of my journals -- simply randomly put stickers, stamps, name tags, and other sticky objects.

Echoes In The Hall

Echoes In The Hall - collage by Douglas Brent Smith Was it a drip? or a step it was many steps inching, creeping, closer music bouncing in the background  sad, acoustic strums a tenor voice another, mezzo, soprano, twins unseen gently heard bespoke beyond a wandering bird
